Hidden facts behind fake evidences of ‘News Of The World’!

Taken from worldocricket

Lords, London – England: British police on Sunday bailed without charge a man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers.
Several people are saying that these allegations are quite right & the players must be punished. The simple answer is these are accusations because they are not proved yet & will not because of the weak strength of the evidences.
Hidden facts behind these fake evidences (People saying these are real, here is the answer that these are fake):

1) Picture of Salman Butt with so called ‘fixer’ Majeed & so called ‘reporter’ of ‘News of the World’ :

Take a close look of this picture
  • Salman Butt is in front, he should be stand in between of them.
  • You can see how much is the difference between the quality of Salman Butt pic, the so called ‘fixer’ pic & the reporter pic.
  • The width of the shadow of Salman’s neck is too big then it comes in real.
  • Have a look at the right side bottom of the picture, bottom of the so called ‘fixer’ Majeed, there is some thing with white border & with black inner surface, what is it, may be a chair or table or some thing. One thing proves here that the photographer is not professional. Then how he gets high quality picture of Salman Butt.
  • The left arm of the jacket/coat which Salman Butt is wearing is so straight, in real its not look like this. Check the yellow line on the left arm of the Salman Butt.

  • If you are still not believing, let’s believe it is true for a while, this picture can be take on some kind of party, the press ‘reporter’ is there, the so called ‘fixer’ is the agent of several ‘Pakistani players’. Still it is not proving that any kind of fixing here.
2) 1st Video in which the so called ‘Reporter’ is giving money to so called ‘Fixer’:
Watch the video carefully:

  • No time is mentioned, it might be recorded after the overs or after the day.
  • When ever any kind of bookie takes such a big amount, he never counts it & he always receive cash in the form of briefcase.
  • What kind of hidden camera is this, which is just fixed in front of the so called ‘fixer’ & table? A CCTV, no because such a hidden camera can’t provide high quality result (colour view) with high quality voice.

3) 2nd Video in which the so called ‘Reporter’ is giving cash to the so called ‘Fixer’ in the car & after this ‘Fixer’ is giving his jacket to Wahab Riaz:
Watch this video carefully:
  • Again no date & time is mentioned.
  • So called ‘Fixer’ is seeing in the camera & talking.
  • Amazingly, so called ‘Reporter’ is giving cash to the so called ‘Fixer’ in the car where there is light & people are walking on the road near the car.
  • 3 cameras are in the car according to the video & so called ‘Fixer’ even can’t point out a single camera & he is looking into it.
  • In the car the so called ‘Fixer’ is wearing ‘Light Blue’ shirt & when he is giving his jacket to Wahab Riaz, he is wearing ‘Black’ shirt.
  • Showing or Giving jacket is not proving anything, because the weather in England is cold & may be Wahab Riaz is feeling cold so Wahab just borrowed the jacket from him.
4) Why the ‘News of the World’ team didn’t went to Police on August 27, 2010:
  • Because the evidence were not ready.
  • Because they were waiting for some kind of poor performance so they can provide more strength to there fake evidences.
  • Some people are saying that because of their weekly edition they leaked the videos on August 28, 2010, well this is not the reason because if they would’ve visited the Scotland Yard on August 27, 2010 with their evidences then there was a chance that Scotland Yard would’ve kept the videos secret until August 28, 2010.
5) So Called ‘Fixer’ Mazhar Majeed released on bail:
Scotland Yard on Sunday bailed without charge a man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers.
“A 35 year-old man has been bailed until a date in the future”, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.

6) Salman Butt refuses to resign after false allegations:

The captain of Pakistan Test Cricket Team insisted he would not be resigning after being implicated in an alleged betting scam.

The matter is almost over, the criticisers must now stop criticising. The English media completely failed in their ridiculous mission.
7) Pakistani players can leave England:
The Pakistani players at the center of the scandal are free to leave the country, London’s Metropolitan Police said Monday.

Officials in flood-ravaged Pakistan urge 500,000 new evacuations

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistan's government has warned about 500,000 people in the country's southeastern Sindh province they should evacuate immediately because of possible flooding, government officials said Thursday.

Residents of three major towns -- Sujawal, Mirpur Bathoro and Daro -- and their surrounding villages have been urged to evacuate as soon as they can to avoid possible flooding.

The warning was issued after a breach in one of the embankments caused by rising water levels in the Indus River, said Ali Gul Sanjrani, a senior government official in Thatha district.

Adding to the problem: a forecast of rain for all of Pakistan's four provinces over the next 24 hours. Thousands remain at risk in the flood-ravaged nation.

Sirens blared Thursday from mosques in Indus River delta cities and towns like Shahdadkot where remaining berms and levees holding back water were about to burst.

Floodwaters have started to recede across Pakistan, but in the Indus delta, the potential for more flooding remained high, especially given high tides in the Arabian Sea, where the Indus spills out.

Already, 17 million Pakistanis -- from the Chinese border in the north to the mouth of the Indus in the south -- have been affected by the monsoon floods that began a month ago.

Many refugees have sought shelter at relief camps, where food and drinking water are now available. But every day, there are new camp arrivals -- people who were already poor, who now have nothing.

The damage from Pakistan's worst humanitarian catastrophe is sure to hurtle the impoverished nation back in terms of development. This week, America's top aid official saw firsthand the dire needs in Pakistan.

Dr. Rajiv Shah, administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development, said he was deeply moved by his visit to Sukkur and that aid agencies were "scaling up their response efforts as quickly as they possibly can."

Shah announced the United States would be diverting another $50 million for flood relief from the Kerry-Lugar act, which allocated $7.5 billion in nonmilitary assistance to Pakistan over five years.

"We know that we can use resources that are effective and efficient, and we know that if we do that right now we will save lives and prevent disease," Shah said. "That's what our humanitarian and moral mission is."

The mission for America is a complicated one in Pakistan, where nearly six out of 10 Pakistanis view Washington as an enemy, and militants routinely launch deadly attacks against the population. Even as U.S. aid pours in for flood victims, unmanned U.S. drone strikes continue in the volatile northern regions.

Foreign aid workers in Pakistan are keenly aware of the dangers of working in a country that is the focus of America's fight against terrorism and where deliberate attacks against humanitarians have occurred in the past.

U.S. government officials have obtained information about threats against foreign aid workers in Pakistan, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters Thursday.

But Maurizio Giuliano, spokesman for the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said aid workers are moving forward under the assumption that no one would want that bring a halt to relief operations.

"We have no reason to fear that this will happen during this relief operation, and we would find it inhumane for someone to target us and our work, effectively harming the millions of people whose life we strive to save," Giuliano said. "Our agenda is a global one, which should unite all humanity to save lives."

There has also been concern in Pakistan that charities run by Islamists could make popular gains during the current crisis.

An official with Falah-e-Insaniyat, a group widely believed to be the charity wing of a Pakistani terrorist group, said Shah, the USAID administrator, visited a camp the group was running.

Kuaateeb Ullah, Falah-e-Insaniyat's leader in Sukkur, said the charity is running five camps in the Sindhi city and providing food and medicine to 3,500 flood survivors. He told CNN that Jumaat Ud Dawa, banned by the United Nations and the Pakistani government as a terrorist organization, was helping fund the relief missions.

Aid -- from any source -- in the midst of a tragedy of such epic proportions is difficult for the desperate to reject. Shah reminded the Pakistani people that America stood behind them.

"As you begin to recover from this disaster, America, including the United States Agency for International Development and all of the other parts of our government, stand with you," he said. "We believe in the moral calling of saving lives when it is possible to do so and we are fully committed to this effort. "

To date, Pakistan's unfolding tragedy has claimed 1,600 lives, according to the National Disaster Management Authority. That number is likely to rise, as more drowned bodies are discovered in receding waters.

CNN's Sara Sidner, Moni Basu and journalist Nasir Habib contributed to this report.

Thatta being evacuated as breaches at bunds continue to widen

Updated at: 0348 PST, Friday, August 27, 2010
Thatta being evacuated as breaches at bunds continue to widen HYDERABAD: Authorities ordered nearly half-a-million people to evacuate nearby towns on Thursday as rising floods threatened further havoc in Sindh. In a late night development, authorities ordered all residents of Thatta city to evacuate to safer places as water levels rose.

Villagers fled trailing north in vans laden with furniture or crowded into buses, or in carts pulled by oxen. Some people were on foot, leading their livestock.

Water lined the road from Hyderabad to Thatta town, as workers frantically used bulldozers to dig embankments only just higher than the flooding, and where people camped out under open skies or in makeshift tents.

A senior administration official warned that fresh floods threatened three towns. A breach into the MS Thatta embankment has inundated many villages and the floodwater is now moving towards Mirpur Bhattero, Sujawal and Daro.

Reports said that a 20-foot wide breach developed at the MS Thatta embankment, which widened to 120 feet within hours due to the inefficiency of irrigation officials.

“We have warned people of Sujawal, Mirpur Bhattero and DaroÖan approximate population of 400,000Ö. to leave for safer places in view of possible flooding there,” Hadi Bakhsh Kalhoro, the senior official in Thatta district, said.

DCO Thatta district Manzoor Sheikh said that some 100,000 people were on the move for safety on Thursday.Reports said that if the developed breach could not be plugged, then there were possibilities that Thatta and Jhirk city would be completely inundated.

Also, Shahdadkot city was once again declared as Red Zone and a warning issued to citizens to vacate the city within 12 hours. The breaches in the Kirthar Canal caused flooding in Shahdadkot and its adjacent areas and floodwater was now moving towards Ratodero.

Meanwhile, the Sindh irrigation minister said waters were also mounting pressure on a protective embankment in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh village, where Benazir Bhutto and her father, as well as her two younger brothers, are buried.

“We have strengthened the embankment because we don’t want mausoleums of our martyrs to be flooded,” the provincial minister, Saifullah Dharejo, said. On the Arabian Sea, authorities fear that coastal districts may flood in coming days, trapped by Indus river floods pushing south and rough seas. “Most people have left Sujawal. I’m also leaving town with a heavy heart with my family,” Mohammed Bakhshal, a 40-year-old farmer, said.

“Local transporters are demanding a lot of money to carry our luggage and families to Thatta and Karachi. I had 15,000 rupees in savings, which I’m now spending on transport.” Authorities warn that the next 48 hours are extremely crucial for Thatta, Shahdadkot and Larkana.

Raging waters swept away a key embankment in Larkana on Monday prompting immediate intervention from President Zardari who directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to repair it as quickly as possible. He warned that action would be taken against ëincompetentí officials of the provincial irrigation department.

Floodwater flowing from areas upstream have accumulated high pressure near Larkana district and the key Aakil Aagani loop embankment, only six kilometers away from the city, gave in to the pressure, developing a breach.

Sources said that if the breach was not plugged immediately, major cities including Larkana, Shahdadkot, Ratodero, Moen-jo Daro and Garhi Khuda Bukhsh would be inundated.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah held a meeting with GOC Pano Aqil, irrigation minister Sindh, provincial minister Mir Nadir Khan Magsi and other irrigation officials to review the flood situation.

In the meeting, it was decided to hand over the task of plugging the Toori embankment breach to the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). FWO Brigadier Amannat accepted the task and conducted a survey of the breach here on Thursday.

Qaim also visited Ratedero. While talking to reporters, he said that there was no artificial breach in any of the embankments here, adding that Ratedero city was out of danger. The entire Katcha area of the Indus river has been submerged and water has started hitting the embankments.

There were three breaches in the Right Bank Outfall Drain (RBOD) and water is flowing to the upper KB Feeder. Hectic efforts are under way by the administration and all concerned departments to save the embankments and avert any major eventuality here.

In the midst of sustained flood level, Hyderabad received a scattered downpour on Thursday, which many fear could lead to weakening of the embankments already bearing the might of the lashing Indus river.

An irrigation official told media that so far the Kotri Barrage and its downstream embankments had been putting up with the pressure of the swelling Indus waters while the peak level had been anticipated to continue till the end of the month.

The water flow remained the same during the last 48 hours and recorded at 936,438 cusecs in the upstream and 916,033 cusecs in the downstream at 6 pm on Thursday, however, some experts were skeptical about the figures made public by the irrigation officials.

The official maintained that there was no chance of floodwaters entering settled areas of Hyderabad district because the embankments had been restrengthened enough to the point as to stand the sheer force of the flood.

DCO Hyderabad Aftab Ahmed Khatri said that his administration was minutely monitoring the flood situation and that he himself visited the protective embankments throughout the day.

Chief Engineer Kotri Barrage Manzoor Sheikh said that despite the fact that the barrage's capacity was just 875,000 cusecs, there was no imminent threat to the structure.

Kotri can sustain 10 per cent or 100,000 cusecs more water without being damaged in any way,î he claimed. Sheikh said that Kotri will not face any second or third wave of floods. He added that the current pressure of exceptionally high floods could last for more than six days.

Fortunately, the flow of water at Sukkur and Guddu Barrages also showed a decline. At 9 pm on Thursday, the water flow at Sukkur Barrage was 795,602 cusecs upstream and 750,602 cusecs downstream, while at Guddu, it stood at 727,971 cusecs upstream and 720,118 downstream.

In Thatta district, floodwaters over-ran the village of Raju Nizamani Goth. After swamping the Katcha areas, floodwater is submerging adjoining villages and towns. At least 6,000 people have been rescued and shifted to higher grounds.

Floodwater is also heading towards the National Highway and Keenjhar Lake. The Pakistan Army has been assigned to monitor all embankments, two of which ñ Surjani and Moonarki ñ have been declared sensitive.

Pakistan's 'unprecedented' crisis worsens

The UK's Disasters Emergency Committee says more than 10 million people in Pakistan are in urgent need of aid.

Released al Qaeda hostages arrive in Spain

Two Spanish aid workers, set free by al Qaeda’s North Africa wing have arrived safe and well back home.
The pair, Albert Vilalta and his colleague Roque Pascual, flew into Barcelona after nine months in captivity.

They were met by their relieved families and a colleague who’d been released in March

Roque Pascual spoke to reporters.“I want you to know that we are well despite these last nine months. The kidnappers treated us correctly despite their own hard way of life.
Also, I want to thank all those who supported us all this time.”

The two who worked for a Barcelona based aid group were earlier flown to Burkina Faso and met by government officials. They’d been kidnapped while travelling through Mauritania with a relief convoy last November. In July the same group killed a French hostage after a failed military rescue attempt.

22-year-old Mexico woman crowned Miss Universe

LAS VEGAS – A 22-year-old Mexico woman won the Miss Universe pageant Monday night after donning a flowing red gown and telling an audience it's important to teach kids family values.

Jimena Navarrete of Guadalajara was first contestant to answer an interview question onstage and the last of 83 standing in the headline-grabbing pageant on the Las Vegas Strip.

"I want to give my parents a big hug," she said at a news conference after the pageant. "There was a lot of effort and a lot of sacrifice."

The train of her single-strap dress floated behind her like a sheet as she walked during the evening gown competition. Before that, she smiled in a violet bikini as she confidently strutted across the stage.

Asked by Olympic gold-medal figure skater Evan Lysacek how she felt about unsupervised Internet use, Navarrete said the Internet is important but parents need to be careful and watch over their kids.

"I do believe that Internet is an indispensable, necessary tool for the present time," she said through an interpreter. "We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family."

First runner-up was Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps, while second runner-up was Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell.

Navarrete said she didn't expect to win.

"I did feel surprised," she said. "I was like in a state of shock."

Navarrete — who's been modeling since she was 15 — is Mexico's second Miss Universe. Lupita Jones of Mexico won the title in 1991. Navarrete replaces Miss Universe 2009 Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela.

Navarrete's win thwarted Miss Venezuela Marelisa Gibson from giving the South American country a third consecutive victory. Neither Gibson nor Miss USA Rima Fakih made the top 15 finalists.

Navarrete was immediately congratulated on Twitter by Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his wife, Margarita Zavala.

"Congratulations to Jimena Navarrete for her deserved victory as Miss Universe," Calderon said. "This will serve Mexico, (and) our image as a country."

With fans in some 190 countries watching on television and keeping tabs on social networks, Navarrete and her competitors introduced themselves while wearing over-the-top national costumes. They then danced in silver and black dresses for the show's opening number before the top 15 finalists were announced.

The final 15 walked in swimsuits while Cirque du Soleil musicians played Elvis Presley songs including "Viva Las Vegas." The last 10 impressed in their gowns while John Legend and the Roots played a soulful medley including "Save Room."

By the end of the show, seven of the top 10 trending topics on Twitter had to do with the pageant, its contestants, its judges or owner Donald Trump. The mogul co-owns the pageant with TV network NBC.

The show was without any major gaffes, except for Miss Philippines' answer when asked what her biggest mistake in life was and how she fixed it.

"In my 22 years of existence, I can say there is nothing major," Venus Raj said.

Before the pageant, Raj was rated among the top contestants in an online poll on the pageant's website. She finished in fifth place.

Navarrete won a package of prizes including an undisclosed salary, a luxury New York apartment with living expenses, a one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy with housing after her reign, plus jewelry, clothes and shoes fit for a beauty champion.

Campbell won the Miss Congeniality Universe award. Miss Thailand Fonthip Watcharatrakul won Miss Photogenic Universe and a second award for having the best national costume.

Fakih, a 24-year-old Lebanese immigrant from Dearborn, Mich., spurred celebrations among Arab-Americans when she won Miss USA. Pageant records aren't detailed enough to show whether Fakih is the first Arab-American, Muslim or immigrant to win Miss USA.

Miss USA has not been named Miss Universe since Brook Lee won the title in 1997.

Lysacek was one of this year's nine celebrity judges. The others were actresses Jane Seymour and Chynna Phillips; actors Chazz Palminteri and William Baldwin; magician Criss Angel; MSNBC anchor Tamron Hall; drummer Shiela E.; and supermodel Niki Taylor.

Tiger Woods' Divorce Is Finalized

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren announce that their marriage is over.

According to People.com, they appeared at Bay County Circuit Court in Panama City, Fla., today for the execution of their divorce agreement.

"We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future," they said in a statement released by Nordegren's law firm, McGuireWoods. "While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us."

While the details of the split have not been revealed, the statement asserted that the couple's children, Sam Alexis, 3, and Charlie Axel, 1, will remain their primary focus.
"Once we came to the decision that our marriage was at an end, the primary focus of our amicable discussions has been to ensure their future well-being," the statement said. "The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern."

Woods' personal and professional life has been in turmoil since the now infamous Thanksgiving holiday car crash that set off an avalanche of allegations about sexual infidelity. Throughout, Nordegren, 30, remained noticably absent, while reports flew that she could receive anywhere from $100 million to $500 million in assets from a divorce settlement.

Woods, 34, took a 5-month-long leave from golf after dozens of women came forward to claim they'd had affairs with him. Now back on the green, his game continues to decline. The man who once seemed a sure thing to break Jack Nicklaus' record for victories at the sport's four major tournaments failed to finish higher than fourth at any of the year's first three majors.

In his other five PGA tournaments this year he withdrew from one, missed the cut at another and finished no higher than 19th at the others.

UN urges faster Pakistan flood aid

UN urges faster Pakistan flood aid UNITED NATIONS: United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said the Pakistan flooding is the worst natural disaster he has ever seen - as more heavy rain heads towards the worst-hit areas.

With the first case of cholera reported, Ban has also urged foreign donors to speed up aid to the country.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said as many as 300,000 people may contract cholera and up to seven million will suffer from diarrhoea.

Up to 1,600 people have died in the disaster and around 20 million have been left homeless.

After pledging a further $10m from the UN's central emergency response fund, Ban said: "This has been a heart-wrenching day - I will never forget the destruction and suffering I have witnessed.

In the past I have witnessed many natural disasters around the world, but nothing like this.

"I am here... to share my sympathy and solidarity of the United Nations together with the people and government of Pakistan at this time of trial.

"I am here also to urge the world community to speed up their assistance to Pakistan.

"Waves of flood must be met with waves of support from the world."

So far, only one case of cholera has been confirmed by the UN, but other cases are suspected among those with diarrhoea.

Mark Ward, acting director of the US department for foreign disaster assistance, said cholera was "unavoidable" - but could be controlled.

He praised a system set up by the WHO to quickly detect any cases of the disease or other waterborne illnesses common after flooding.

"The good news is that we know where it is and we can get resources in there to help because of the disease early warning system," he said.

"When you are dealing with this much water and that many people, it (cholera) is almost unavoidable. I think we can control this."

Cholera, a bacterial intestinal infection typically spread through contaminated water, causes severe diarrhoea and dehydration and can be fatal.

Fresh flood waves have swelled the River Indus, threatening nearby cities, towns and villages in southern Sindh province, said senior meteorologist Mohammed Ajmal Shad.

Authorities are trying to evacuate or warn people in Jacobabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Ghotki, Larkana and other areas in Sindh province that so far have been spared floods.

Meanwhile, more American helicopters have joined food aid work, with the US assigning aircraft from the USS Peleliu in the Arabian Sea.

And France has announced it will send a plane loaded with 60 tons of aid to the region.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the world and Pakistan faced a "defining moment," while Britain and the United States raised their combined aid contributions to 250 million dollars.

"I stand before you as the voice of 20 million Pakistanis devastated by the floods," Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told the UN General Assembly's emergency fund-raising session in New York.

"The massive upheaval caused by the floods and the economic losses suffered by the millions of Pakistanis must be addressed urgently. We cannot allow this catastrophe to become an opportunity for the terrorists."

Although weather forecasters say the monsoon systems are easing off and water levels receding, the fallout from three weeks of devastating floods that have left nearly 1,500 people dead is likely to last for years.

The nuclear-armed nation of 167 million is a top US foreign policy priority due to the threat posed by Islamist extremists, as Washington tries to bring an end to the nine-year war against the Taliban in neighboring Afghanistan.

In a poignant video message, Clinton urged Americans and the world to reach deep into their pockets for the crucial war on terror ally, saying: "This is a defining moment -- not only for Pakistan, but for all of us.

"The enormity of this crisis is hard to fathom, the rain continues to fall, and the extent of the devastation is still difficult to gauge.

"In surveying the lives and landscape affected by this disaster, we see brothers and sisters; mothers and fathers; daughters and sons. We see 20 million members of the human family in desperate need of help."

Clinton doubled US aid from 90 million dollars to 150 million dollars, while Britain said it planned to double its contribution to more than 64 million pounds (99 million dollars).

"I have come to New York directly from Pakistan, where I saw the dire need for more help," British Development Secretary Andrew Mitchells told the General Assembly. "It is deeply depressing that the international community is only now waking up to the true scale of this disaster."

Clinton announced that the State Department had set up a Pakistan Relief Fund and urged Americans to donate, either online or by texting F-L-O-O-D to a special cell phone number.

"Every dollar makes a difference," she said. "Five dollars can buy 50 high energy bars providing much needed nutrition; 10 dollars can provide a child or mother with a blanket; and about 40 dollars can buy material to shelter a family of four."

The US pointman on Pakistan called on China to join the global effort, saying billions of dollars would be needed for the country's reconstruction.

"I think the Chinese should step up to the plate," Richard Holbrooke told reporters at an Asia Society event before the UN meeting.

More than 40 speakers were scheduled to take the floor of the General Assembly to pledge increased assistance.

Opening the special session, UN chief Ban Ki-moon described the disaster as "one of the greatest tests of global solidarity" and said Pakistan was facing a "slow-motion tsunami."

Qureshi said the economic damage was at least 43 billion dollars and warned that failure to assist, "could undermine the hard won gains made by the government in our difficult and painful war against terrorism."

The General Assembly adopted a resolution urging the international community to help Pakistan recover, as foreign donors belatedly rallied in support of the embattled Muslim nation.

The Asian Development Bank said it would provide two billion dollars to repair roads, bridges, power lines, homes, schools, medical facilities and farm structures, and the World Bank has promised to lend 900 million dollars.

At least six million flood survivors in desperate need of food, shelter and clean drinking water require humanitarian assistance to survive, as concerns grow over potential cholera, typhoid and hepatitis outbreaks.

The floods wiped out villages, farmland and infrastructure, and UN aid coordination body OCHA said more than 650,000 homeless families were still without basic shelter.

In Islamabad, US Senator John Kerry and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari urged the world to act swiftly to stop extremists exploiting the country's devastating floods and to prevent social unrest.

Qabo Saeed, Shahdadkot, Sujawal, Rato Dero at risk of high flood

Updated at: 0541 PST,  Tuesday, August 17, 2010

SUKKUR: Floods rising from River Indus have inflicted massive devastation across Sindh province.

Floods have turned their directions towards Keerthar Canal in Jacobabad after water was seen flowing backwards due to destruction of gates located at Karang Regulator near Shahdadkot.

According to Executive Engineer Keerthar Canal, Munawwar Bazdar, as the floodwater is flowing backwards in canal, the Sukkur District has come closer to high floods.

Qabo Saeed Khan, Shahdadkot, Sujawal, Rato Dero and Miro Khan cities have been put on red alert given the flow of floodwater in Keerthar Canal, he said.

DCO Shahdadkot has ordered evacuation of 150 villages on emergency basis after the district was alerted against potential flooding.

Relief Camps have been established in Karachi and Shahdadkot city for flood-affectees, he said.

Meanwhile, district administration has resolved construction of a temporary bund on motorway to turn direction of floodwater against civic population.

A huge number of civic population have started migrating towards safer places after a massive floodtide was seen moving towards FP bund, witnesses told media.

As many as 25 villages located in tehsil Manjhand of Jamshoro District have been flooded, leaving thousands of people stranded amid floodwater.

A gigantic flood torrent is marching towards Larkana and Khairpur districts after a huge crack was developed in under construction security bund: aimed at turning direction of River Indus away from civic population in both the districts.

The level of floodwater spread around Jacobabad district is rising alarmingly owing to arrival of more water from broken bund along Indus River.
